The main scientific sessions of the Conference will be on Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 June. The opening session will examine the key themes to be covered – what are the questions to be answered about staffing in medical schools: what data do we have: what is the international view? We will then move on to a number of case studies – staffing in medical schools across Europe, in Slovenia, the USA, and so on. The Conference will invite free communications on staffing issues within medical schools, mainly to be presented as posters, and the Conference scientific committee will select the most interesting of these free presentations for oral presentation to this second session of the Conference.
On the morning of the second day, the third Conference session will look at the problem from a number of different perspectives. What staffing issues are important for clinical academics at the start of their career? How are crises resolved? What does staffing policy say about a medical school? Do we have examples of good practice dealing with these issues?
The final session will take outside views: the health care system, the university, the private sector – and will then conclude with agreement of a Conference Declaration, setting out the consensus on the most important issues facing medical schools and their staffing.
